The Pretty Little Town of Vienne

The lovely town of Vienne has the first ever and the second biggest market in France.

The fruit and veggies were so lovely.  It was such a shame that we couldn't buy and bring them home with us.

We did purchase a small pun net of strawberries though which were scoffed before we left the market.

White asparagus - Jenny's favourite

And green asparagus - Shelley's favourite!

Check out the size of these lemons!

There was everything at this market, from clothes to toys to wooden products to packets of biscuits and pasta.  Everything!

Even sewing machines!

This is an unfortunate aftermath of the market.  I'm sure they'll clean it up.

Or perhaps it could just become part of the ruins?

We spotted these symbols on the ground everywhere in Vienne which obviously marked a trail to somewhere - probably a tree of some significance, but we learned our lesson in Dijon looking for that bloody owl, so we left the tree alone and blazed our own trail.

We passed beautiful old buildings dating back to the 1500s.

Roman ruins a-plenty

I'm not sure what century this tower was built in, but I can't help but think that they were the initial inventors of the orgasmatron!

Don't you agree?

Whilst wandering around the little streets, we were treated, purely by accident to a..... parade? a protest? a cult?  I'm not sure....

The chap following the bear skin wearing chap is looking at me as if to say.... "I'm not sure what is happening either!"

And along they marched, with no audience, except the two of us and the lady behind them, carrying her shopping.

And this chef, who was just trying to get past with his bag of flour.

My obsession with small doors continues in Vienne.... I mean, how small were the people who lived here in the 1500s?

Sometimes, when we're trying to be posh, we call Jen - D'yen... but now we realised that all this time, we've just been speaking French!

Can you spot D'yenny in this picture?

One of the highlights on our self guided tour of Vienne was this little patisserie.

(how touristy do I look?) ⬇

Where we sampled an eclair and a macaron with our cafè

Thank you Vienne - a lovely little town.
