Ferry Day

The weather has finally cleared up except for this one pesky little cloud.... but I guess we can live with that.

The islands along the Dalmation coast of are truly paradisiacal.  The calmness of the Adriatic Sea on one side, the comfort of the the mountains standing strong on the other and the 100s of rugged, vineyard filled islands girt by crystal clear, aqua coloured water.

This picture was taken from the top of the ferry that was taking us from Korčula to Orbić on the Pelješac Peninsula.

So it wasn't even in the nicest of areas, just the bit where the ferry goes.

The car ferries are fantastic - especially if you've got a car!  They're so easy to use and run pretty frequently.  So if you miss one, because you didn't want to leave the beach - no problem, cause there's another one in half an hour and you can have another swim while you wait!

So, it's farewell Korčula.  We certainly weren't there long enough to appreciate everything, but we gave it a red hot go and really, that's all you can ask of a person.

Driving down the peninsula and over the hill, this is the view we got of the islands we were leaving behind.....

This is what happens when you put your camera down for two seconds!

Check out the vineyards - they grown almost vertically!  In the picking season, they apparently have to hire professional climbers/abseilers to do the picking.... anyone else would just fall off!

This is a very rare sight of no islands.

We passed so many gorgeous little villages right on the water with their own beach and protected bay.

This is the tunnel that takes you from one side of the mountain to the other.  It is one lane wide.  Not sure they thought that the whole way through.

On the other side we visited a winery that made the wine that was chosen to serve to the Pope last year on his visit.  So we had to try it.

It was a very tasty drop.

On my previous visit, I remembered a bay that had hundreds of poisonous, spiky sea urchins that sat in the shallows.  I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of it or where it was.... then we rounded a corner and there it was.  I still can't remember the name - but here's a picture.

The water is soooo clear, you can hardly believe that it's the sea!

I mean, I took this photo from half way up a hill and could see and photograph these fish under the water!  Totes amaze balls, right?

Even though the water may be clear, it doesn't mean that it is clear what is going on around you.....  I'm not sure if these chaps thought they were already in the water or what their plans were for the day.... perhaps some pillaging?
