Stari Grad

Stari Grad is an old town on the island of Hvar, just off Split.  It is a fairly rugged place covered with old dry stone walls and grape vines, olive trees and vegetable patches.

Stari Grad is in a protected little bay with lots of boats of all shapes and sizes.

This chap had just pulled up and had his wears on show.

There is a saying in Croatia when you are asked if you are catching any fish....

There is always enough fish for the bait and the cats.

The little town is full of these gorgeous winding streets.

Proof that you should always look up!
You never know what treasures you will find.

A local man went past as I was taking this picture and he said that this same cat had been sleeping in this same place every single day for years and years.

There was a storm a com in' and lots of boats were 'hiding' in the protected port.

As we stood and looked at the boats, the water started to rise and eventually surged up and over the path.  It rose about a metre!

And then as fast as it came in, it went out again.  A little bit like a tsunami, but the locals weren't worried at all.  Apparently it happens there all the time.

I wonder if this little boat needs to be emptied every time it happens?
