Three Countries In One Day!

Italy - Slovenia - Croatia

All in a couple of hours!

Our first stop was to be in Lipiča in Slovenia - home of the Lipiča horses.

Now, I know what you're thinking..... "aren't they the same horses that you saw in Camargue in France?"  But no dear friends, these are different horses.  I was confused myself at first, but I did a small bit of research.... so I hope this clears that up.

The Camaruge's natural habitat is the wetlands of the Rhone Delta of France
The Lipizzaner are from Slovenia

The Camargue's grow to 14.3 hands
The Lippos grow to 16.1 hands

The Cam's have a short neck, strong limbs, a flat forehead and small ears.
The Lippo's have a long head, a deep jawline and they feed tend to be small, but are tough.

The Camo's live until they're about 22.5 years old
The Lip's live a bit longer, coming in at about 32.5 years old

The Camargue is the traditional horse of the Camargue Horsement who herd the black bulls used for French bullfights.
The Lipizzaner can be traced to 800 A.D. when its ancestors were crossed with Barb horses.  The breed was developed during the 16th century when the Hadsburgs ruled Spain and demanded stronger horses for military use.

The Cam's breed was developed in 1970
The Lipp's was developed in 1580

Both types of horses start out a browny/grey colour and then turn white when they're about 5 years old.

At this horse stud, there were also some ponies....

This one stood at this tree and didn't moved, a bit like he'd done something wrong and was in a 'time-out'.

And check out his poor pony's 'dumb and dumber' haircut.

But then again..... look where he got it cut!
