Giorno Tre - The Day of The Jakov

The next leg of our "Where To Next" tour takes us to Croatia and today we met our Croatian guide - Jakov.  I must say we were slightly apprehensive about dealing with a tour company from overseas over the internet.  Zagreb Tours had great reviews on Tripadvisor, but still, you never know..... but we sighed a deep sigh of relief when our guide showed up - exactly on time.

Part of our Croatia tour includes 2 days in Venice, so we are here for two more nights, however since we've seen almost all of Venice in the last two days (it's only a small place!) there is not much more that Jakov can show us,

(how often can you see St Mark's Square.... am I right?)

although hearing information and stories about buildings etc is very interesting.

So today, we caught a water taxi from our first hotel to our second hotel, the one included in our Croatia tour - the Ca'San Giorgio and I have to say.... it is the cutest little place.  Very central and comfortable.

This is our head height balcony.  If you stand out on there and look to the left, you can see the Grand Canal.

We dropped the bags off and set straight out into the only two districts that we hadn't yet been to do more exploring, this time with the knowledge of Jakov by our side.

He showed us some interesting looking fish at the fish market near the Rialto Bridge.

And there was a butcher who sold only horse!  That just isn't right.

Today on our travels, we saw.....

A man sending up planks of wood to the top of this scaffolding tied to a rope.

Our first set of actual Venetian blinds!

Some pizza that was wayyyy too thick!

Gondolas.... did you know that back in the day, gondolas were painted all different colours and they made the city bright and happy looking... then somebody decreed it that they should all be painted black and that was that.  Would it be nice to be able to just go around decreeing things.

We also learned that the 6 prongs on the front of the gondolas represent the 6 different districts of Venice.

We past this Greek looking church by passing between the church and the building to the left of it.  You will notice that the newer building on the left has been build into the stairs of the church!  I mean, move over just a bit and give the church some room!

This is the little jetty at the end of our street.  Unfortunately the Vaparetto doesn't stop here, but it's nice to go down and have a look at the goings on of the Grand Canal.

Me and me Jenny ready for a big night out on the town..... We asked if we could book into a restaurant for dinner at about 7ish and the lady said, "In Venice, we don't finish the lunch until 6!"
