La Ville-Lumière

Hello Paris!  It's great to be back.

As we are joining a tour in Paris, we stayed in the same hotel to save us wasting a day moving hotels.  So for 3 days we will be living on the border of the 2nd and 9th arrondissements.  We've stayed in this area before and if we weren't meeting the tour, we would have stayed somewhere completely different.  Not that there was anything wrong with this area, quite the contrary, it was very nice, but it's always good to be able to explore a new area when you're retuning to somewhere you've been before.

Here are some sights of Paris on our first day.

Roger - he was hanging out in the Lindt shop - as were we!

The view from the roof top "panoramique" of the Galleries Lafayette.  There she is in the background.... the Eiffel.

The Opera House

Two lovely ladies and a tower

Through the necessary industrial bits on the roof, you can glimpse the Sacre Coeur in the distance.

Inside the Galleries Lafayette

This man was in this exact same position in the middle of the footpath for the whole three days.

He asked people for cigarettes and just laid back and smoked them.  He stashed his spare ones in his hat.

Check out these groovy cars that you can hire and drive around Paris.

And these electric ones are everywhere.  I'm not sure what the deal is with these ones, whether you can hire them or if you need to be part of a membership to use them, but there's lines of them parked next to plug in stations - so groovy.
